Hinojosa Statement on New 15th District Map

August 4, 2006 -
Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) today issued the following statement regarding the newly drawn Congressional map:

"For two years it has been an honor and privilege to represent the 15th Congressional in its current form. I learned a tremendous amount from every person I met in every county, and I hope that I served them well in both the district and in Washington.

"I am disappointed with the court's decision today, because it means I will no longer represent Bastrop, Colorado, Fayette and La Vaca counties. This change is another example that rural and emerging communities have been needlessly reshuffled and pay the price for constant redistricting at the whims of political power shifts in the state.

"I will continue working to the best of my ability to represent South and Central Texas, and it is my sincere hope that the good people of Texas won't have to endure this type of political gerrymandering anytime in the near future."
